Vesper at The Cosmopolitan

Las Vegas, NV | 2019

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (TCOLV) is pleased to reintroduce the newly-designed Vesper Bar. A staple of The Cosmopolitan’s renowned mixology program, Vesper Bar serves as a complement to the luxury casino-resort’s lobby and guest arrival experience. On the heels of serving its two-millionth patron, the re-imagined cocktail haven designed by PUNCH and The Cosmopolitan’s design team opened December 20, 2019. Named after the legendary Vesper cocktail in the James Bond novel “Casino Royale,” Vesper Bar reflects the iconic mystery of 007 with modern décor, bold accents and an innovative menu. The lounge’s redesign continues to pay homage to its origin while embodying the ambiance and design sophistication of The Cosmopolitan. PUNCH collaborated with the in-house design and construction team at TCOLV for execution of the project.

Design-wise; the interior remodel is layered in 1970’s inspired cinema, art & design, and mythology contrasted with a the modern reinvention of the Bond franchise seen through the lens of the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, as influenced by the use of cinematography (camera movement, and reflecting the mood) and mystery, complexity, and elegance of Vesper Lynd (which the iconic Bond Martini is named for from Ian Fleming’s original Casino Royale novel). As we began the design charette process, we quickly realized that the ceiling would make or break the project and after many design iterations, we came to the conclusion that The Man with the Golden Gun was the answer. The elongated brass pipe ceiling that defines Vesper are a subtle nod to this classic film and helps make the bar the perfect place to get a martini, “shaken, not stirred.” We also referenced film techniques in the design as the implied movement through the ceiling undulations reference camera movement and light and shadow, reflecting the mood. The slight sense of unease and hostility created by cutting the tubes at an angle implying a sense of sharpness/edge bringing out the femme fatale side of Vesper playing by her own rules. We can carried these themes throughout the project with rich and darker deep stone finishes at the bar, contrasted with softer and warmer jewel tones with the fabric to create a balance of sexiness, intrigue, elegance, danger, sophistication, and martinis; everything one wants from a great James Bond film.
